Z. Kaplan et P. Lichtenberg, DELUSIONAL DISORDER, SOMATIC SUBTYPE, TREATED WITH FLUVOXAMINE, The European journal of psychiatry, 9(4), 1995, pp. 238-241
Dysmorphophobia, a brief and exaggerated concern with an imagined or n
egligible defect in physical appearance. has been divided by DSM-IV in
to two separate disorders. When the disturbance attains delusional int
ensity, the proper diagnosis is delusional disorder of the somatic sub
type. For the non-delusional cases, DSM-IV created the category of Bod
yDysmorphic Disorder (BDD). Two cases of delusional disorder, somatic
subtype, are described which were successfully treated with fluvoxamin
e. The validity of this DSM-IV diagnostic entity is thus questioned.
