Formation process of the solar-wind supersonic flow is studied. We use
data obtained in 1983 - 1992 in radio astronomy experiments on the ci
rcumsolar plasma probing. We found correlations between the plasma flo
w parameters with the corresponding consecutive stages of plasma flow
acceleration (subsonic region, transition region with mixed flow, and
supersonic-flow region). It is established that the transition-region
extension, its distance from the Sun, and the supersonic-flow terminal
velocity at large distances are to a significant extent predetermined
by the state of the plasma at the initial stage of acceleration in th
e subsonic region.
