The first stages of cellular precipitation development and cell format
ion at interphase boundaries have been investigated in a Cu-9 wt% Sb a
lloy. From optical microscopy observations of the early stages of cell
ular precipitation it seems that the Tu and Turnbull mechanism control
s the reaction initiation. It is demonstrated that discontinuous preci
pitation with the same morphology and interlamellar spacing can be ini
tiated at interphase boundaries between the matrix and the eutectoid p
hases, as well as at grain boundaries.
