Ac. Borges et al., ASSESSMENT OF MYXOMA WITH DYNAMIC 3-DIMENSIONAL ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY - A HELPFUL NEW APPROACH FOR THE SURGICAL-MANAGEMENT, American journal of noninvasive cardiology, 8(6), 1994, pp. 313-316
Myxomas are the most common type of primary heart tumors. Surgical rem
oval is routinely recommended due to the potential embolic phenomena.
Dynamic three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography using a com
puter-controlled probe that acquires parallel tomographic slices was e
mployed for preoperative assessment of a left atrial myxoma in a 59-ye
ar-old female. In comparison to conventional two-dimensional transesop
hageal echocardiography dynamic three-dimensional transesophageal echo
cardiography was more informative. Dynamic three-dimensional transesop
hageal echocardiography is shown to be more useful in planning cardiac
surgery.
