Abstract
The case of students who obtain an average mark for a set of papers wh ich lies on a borderline is considered with respect to minimum marks t o be obtained in all papers. Data is presented to show that such cavea ts can be severe on the students, particularly when the assessment sch eme is made up of a large number of papers.
