We have investigated a sample of dusty supergiants and Mira variables
and have found a roughly linear relationship between the absolute magn
itude at 12 mu m and the [12]-[25] color. Both samples follow the same
infrared color-magnitude relationship, which may serve as a distance
indicator and a means of better understanding the mass-loss and dust-f
ormation mechanisms of evolved stars. (C) 1995 American Astronomical S
