Abstract
This study evaluates the performance of a 10-Gbits/s coherent optical synchronous receiver for ASK FSK, and PSK modulation formats in the pr esence of both transmitter laser and local oscillator phase noise. It has been shown that the effect of phase noise on the receiver sensitiv ity will be negligibly small when the rms value of phase noise sigma(p hi) is less than 0.2 rad.
