Hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC) is one of man's comm
onest hereditary diseases. Several studies have identified four respon
sible genes that are involved in a process known as DNA mismatch repai
r; hMSH2 is the most important of these four genes. In addition to mut
ational analysis of these genes, investigations of transcriptional reg
ulatory mechanisms are important. Therefore, our purpose has been to i
solate the hMH2 promoter region, Using direct sequencing of P1 recombi
nant DNA we have characterized 1100 bp of the hMSH2 promoter.
