Abstract
This paper considers the selection of atoms under the action of laser radiation in the presence of an autoionizing state. By analyzing a sim ple atomic. system, we demonstrate that the monochromatization degree, which is defined as the ratio of the width of the initial velocity di stribution to the width of the final velocity distribution, may be as high as 10(2).
