M. Rosener et al., INTRACRANIAL HEMORRHAGE FOLLOWING INTRACA VERNOUS METARAMINOL THERAPYOF A PROLONGED ERECTION, Aktuelle Urologie, 26(6), 1995, pp. 427-429
Following intracavernous injection of papaverine and phentolamine in t
he treatment of erectile dysfunction, the reported 48-year old patient
developed a prolonged erection. Treatment of this complication by int
racavernous injection of the potent alphamimetic metaraminol led to su
dden hypertension, tachyarrhythmia and intracranial haemorrhage. This
case illustrates that treatment of prolonged erection following intrac
avernous injection therapy bears the risk of severe complications.
