Abstract
The synthesis of stable Pt(II) coordinatively saturated derivatives su itable as precursors of organometallic polymers is described. Compound s of the type [PtX(2)(dmphen) (olefin)] (X = CN, SCN; dmphen = 2,9-Me( 2)-1,10-phenanthroline) are obtained by oxidative addition to Pt(0) sp ecies. The unprecedent fission of activated carbon-carbon bonds to giv e 18 e(-) Pt(II) species is described. The solid state structure of [P t(SCN)(2)(dmphen) (dimethylmaleate)] has been determined by X-ray crys tallography. Vinyl monomers [PtCl(RCH=CH2)-(dmphen)(dimethylmaleate)] (R = CO2, CH2CO2) have also been obtained.
