Bj. Mcgrory et Rt. Trousdale, TOTAL HIP-ARTHROPLASTY IN PATIENTS WHO HAVE CHRONIC LYMPHOCYTIC-LEUKEMIA, The Journal of arthroplasty, 10(6), 1995, pp. 758-763
Twenty patients who had chronic lymphocytic leukemia underwent 25 elec
tive primary total hip arthroplasties al the Mayo Clinic. No patient h
ad a postoperative prosthetic infection. No patient had an intraoperat
ive or postoperative hemorrhagic complication. One patient had a revis
ion for aseptic loosening. After an average follow-up period of 4.6 ye
ars, there were 84% good and excellent results. It is concluded that p
atients who have early-stage chronic lymphocytic leukemia may not be a
t increased risk or major perioperative or postoperative complications
in total hip arthroplasty. The surgeon must remain vigilant for posto
perative complications, but satisfactory clinical results can be obtai
ned in this patient population.
