M. Kuznietz et al., ANTIPARALLEL ORDERED MAGNETIC-MOMENTS OF HEAVY AND LIGHT F-ATOMS IN THE (U1-XTBX)CO2GE2 SOLID-SOLUTIONS STUDIED BY NEUTRON-DIFFRACTION, Physical review. B, Condensed matter, 52(22), 1995, pp. 15975-15978
The assumption that the ordered magnetic moments of randomly distribut
ed heavy and light f atoms with positive in-plane exchange are antipar
allel is tested with neutron diffraction on (U1-xTbx)Co2Ge2 solid solu
tions, having ThCr2Si2-type crystal structure and AF-I(+-+-) magnetic
structure at approximate to 10 K. The measured ordered magnetic moment
s (aligned along the tetragonal axis) per (U,Tb) site imply ferrimagne
tic (U,Tb) planes, with Tb moments of 9.0+/-0.3 mu(B) (close to Tb mom
ent in TbCo2Ge2) antiparallel to U moments of 1.1+/-0.3 mu(B) (slightl
y lower than U moment in UCo2Ge2).
