Abstract
Fictitious load and displacement discontinuity methods are used in thi s paper to study a dynamic crack contact problem. A successive approxi mation technique has been developed to analyse the effect of contact b etween crack surfaces. An nth order approximation to the dynamic stres s intensity factor is obtained from an iterative technique. Chen's pro blem of a central crack in a rectangular sheet subjected to a uniform stress and an isolated crack in an infinite sheet subjected to a conce ntrated force are analysed, and the first order approximation to the d ynamic stress intensity factors obtained.
