Abstract
Surface states are studied in dependence on thickness of organic quant um wells within the nearest layer approximation. It is shown that ther e is a material-dependent critical thickness. Structures that have thi ckness thinner or thicker than the critical one, exhibit qualitatively different characteristics of surface states. Criteria for existence a nd sign rules for location of energy levels of surface states are esta blished which are general and contain the results of the previous work s as particular cases.
