A. Makioka et H. Ohtomo, AN INCREASED DNA-POLYMERASE-ACTIVITY ASSOCIATED WITH VIRULENCE OF TOXOPLASMA-GONDII, The Journal of parasitology, 81(6), 1995, pp. 1021-1022
DNA polymerase activity of the virulent RH strain of Toxoplasma gondii
was significantly higher than that of the avirulent ME49 strain, wher
eas sensitivity of the activities of both strains to salt, Mg2+, and i
nhibitors of mammalian DNA polymerases were almost the same. It is sug
gested that this increased enzyme activity of the virulent strain cont
ributes to a faster rate of multiplication of the organisms as compare
d with that of the avirulent strain.
