A procedure for the analyses of nonisothermal, batch reaction data is
presented. Nonlinear regression analyses based on a least-squares obje
ctive function yield kinetic rate expression parameters from a single
experiment. Data collected for the thermal decomposition of benzoyl pe
roxide in xylene were analyzed, illustrating differential and integral
analyses. The Arrhenius frequency factor and activation energy determ
ined were in agreement with published results obtained by isothermal e
xperiments. In addition, the regression analyses determined the initia
l concentration of the reactant.
