In this paper a new driving mechanism for paddy fields, the chain-padd
le driving mechanism, is described, and its working principle is expla
ined. Calculations of the pull on each paddle and the total pull on th
e mechanism are given according to the theological behaviour of paddy
soils. Experiments for a single driving paddle are carried out in a so
il bin. The experimental results show that the measured data fit the t
heoretical ones well.
