Two new neo-clerodane diterpenoids, scutegalin C and D, have been isol
ated from the acetone extract of the aerial parts of Scutellaria galer
iculata. The structures of the new compounds were established by chemi
cal and spectroscopic means as (13S, 19R)-6 alpha-acetoxy-4 alpha,18-e
poxy-7 beta-tigloyloxy-neo-cleroda-(19-O-tigloyl)-19,2 alpha, 16,15-di
hemiacetal (scutegalin C) and (13S,19R)-6 alpha-acetoxy-4 alpha,18-epo
xy-neo-cleroda-(19-O-tigloyl)-19,2 alpha, 16,15-dihemiacetal (scutegal
in D). The absolute stereochemistry of scutegallin C was determined by
chemical correlation with the already known neo-clerodane scutegalin
B.
