The nucleus Te-114 has been studied in heavy-ion gamma-ray spectroscop
y experiments performed with the early implementation of the GAMMASPHE
RE multidetector array. Three rotational intruder bands have been obse
rved up to high spins. The yrast band, involving the 4p2h (h(11/2))(2)
(g(7/2))(2)(g(9/2))(-2) proton configuration, reaches I-48HBAR at an e
xcitation energy of 30.3 MeV, the highest observed spin connected by g
amma rays in this mass region. The band properties are interpreted in
the framework of smooth band termination.
