Abstract
We show that the very strong Coulomb dipole polarizability and breakup of Li-11 reduces significantly its near-barrier fusion cross section with a heavy target nucleus. We suggest that the measurement of sigma( F) concomitantly with that bf;he elastic scattering would allow an una mbiguous extraction of the dipole polarizability of halo nuclei.
