Measurement of various moments of the angular momentum distribution in
fusion reactions of O-16, Si-28+In-115 has been carried out at near-
and below-barrier energies using a multielement EGO multiplicity detec
tor set-up. Fusion events were selected using the alpha particle evapo
ration events at backward angles with respect to the beam direction. I
t is found that for the O-16+In-115 reaction, the moments of the l dis
tribution match well with the calculations based on the one-dimensiona
l barrier penetration model, whereas in the case of the Si-28+In-115 re
action, the experimental values are higher than the predictions of the
above theoretical calculations, and could be explained by incorporati
ng the coupling of projectile deformation in the barrier penetration c
alculations. The present work brings out the role of projectile deform
ation in enhancing the higher moments of the fusion I distribution aro
und barrier energies.
