Abstract
The glycosphingolipid (GSL) composition of the marine sponge Agelas co nifera was investigated. In addition to three GSLs previous isolated f rom Agelas clathrodes (2a-4a), the novel alpha-glycosylceramide 1a was isolated as a major componentof the GSL mixture, and its structure wa s elucidated by extensive NMR studies and by chemical analysis.
