Na. Elwakil et al., REACTIVITY AND KINETIC-STUDIES OF CHEMICALLY TREATED LINEN FIBERS TOWARDS EMULSION XANTHATION, Research and Industry, 40(4), 1995, pp. 311-314
Kinetic studies of chemically treated linen fibres for emulsion xantha
tion were conducted. Linen fibres were mild cleaned using different ag
ents, i.e., sodium hydroxide, sodium hypochlorite and sodium chlorite/
potassium permanganate mixture. The chemical constituents of the clean
ed samples were estimated. The differently cleaned samples were subjec
ted to reactivity measurements towards emulsion xanthation. Samples tr
eated with a mixture of sodium chlorite/potassium permanganate mixture
were found to be more reactive than those treated with sodium hypochl
orite. The reactivity of cotton linter was taken as a reference. The o
rder of reaction, the specific rate constants and the applicability of
the simple diffusion law were estimated.
