Abstract
The microsporidium Thelohania muelleri (PFEIFFER, 1895) has been detec ted in the amphipods Gammarus roeseli and Gammarus fossarum. These hos ts were collected in the Austrian countries Steiermark, Burgenland and Vorarlberg as well as in Croatia. The mean spore sizes differed depen ding on the host species, geographical origin and between host individ uals from the same location. An explanation for these features is disc ussed. A hitherto poorly known stage in the lifecycle, the merogonial plasmodium with diplokarya, is briefly described.
