Viscosity measurements for solutions of tetraphenylarsonium chloride (
Ph(4)AsCl); tetraphenylphosphonium bromide (Ph(4)PBr) and Sodium tetra
phenylborate (NaBPh(4)) in propylene carbonate .(PC) are reported at 2
5, 35 and 45 degrees C. Electrical conductances of these salts and tha
t of tetrabutylammonium tetraphenylborate (Bu(4)NBPh(4)) have also bee
n measured at 25 degrees C. Viscosity data have been analysed by means
of Jones-Dole equation and B coefficients evaluated. Conductance data
have been analysed by 1978 Fuoss conductance equation in terms of equ
ivalent conductance (Lambda(0)), association constant (K-Lambda) and a
ssociation distance (R). Limiting ionic values have been determined us
ing the 'reference electrolytes' Bu(4)NBBu(4) and Bu(4)NBPh(4). Stokes
radii have also been evaluated and the study indicates that Na+ and C
l- are substantially solvated while other ions are scarcely solvated a
nd remain as free ions in this medium.
