Abstract
The metal loading on alumina surfaces from group-6 metal (Cr, Mo, W) c arbonyls and their derivatives is determined by Rutherford backscatter ing spectroscopy. The subcarbonyl species are generated by photochemic al activation and monitored by Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy . No chemical adsorption takes place for the three systems studied. Ne vertheless, in the presence of the ligand triphenylphosphine (PPh(3)) and the assistance of UV radiation, surface species chemically bonded to gamma-Al2O3 can be observed, achieving a maximum metal loading of 0 .3% in the case of Cr and 0.4% in the case of W.
