Abstract
The formation of organic compounds during steam drying of bark chips i n the exhaust steam was investigated as a function of time, with tempe rature and age of bark chips as independent parameters. The rate of fo rmation strongly depends on temperature. The results suggest that the amount of organic compounds in the exhaust steam can be minimized by d rying stored bark at 'low' temperature, with a short drying time.
