In the paper direct and indirect strengthening contributions are compa
red in the composite materials strengthened by particles. Low-temperat
ure yield strength consisting of five additive constituents has two ma
in contributions: an indirect strengthening constituent by subgrain, t
hat is smaller than a direct one, resulting from the incoherent partic
les-moving dislocations interaction. The type of microstructure (the d
istribution of particles in the volume) strongly influences the direct
strengthening contribution which is more pronounced in the case of un
iformly random structure of the dispersed particles distribution.
