Jb. Haddow et al., A NOTE ON HYPERBOLIC HEAT-CONDUCTION IN A RIGID SOLID, Transactions of the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering, 19(4), 1995, pp. 509-516
Two hyperbolic heat conduction theories which predict a finite speed o
f propagation of thermal effects are considered. Numerical results obt
ained from these theories are presented for a one spatial dimension bo
undary-initial value problem, which involves transient heat conduction
in a rigid half space. These results are compared with results from t
he classical theory, which predicts an infinite speed of propagation o
f thermal effects. It is shown that, for the problem considered, resul
ts from the three theories are very similar at times which are large c
ompared to the relaxation time of the hyperbolic theories.
