CHARGE-TRANSFER COMPLEXES OF OXAZOLONES WITH NITROBENZENE PI-ACCEPTORS

Charge-transfer molecular complexes of some 2-aryl-4-arylidene-5(4) ox azolanes with di- and trinitrobenzene have been studied at 25 degrees C. The stoichiometry and apparent formation constants of the complexes formed were determined by applying the conventional continuous variat ion method. The role of the molecular structure of the electron donor and acceptor compounds as well as the nature of the solvent on the for mation of such charge-transfer complexes. Furthermore, association con stants, oscillator strength, dipole moment, and free energy are elucid ated. (C) 1995 Academic Press, Inc.
