Results of high-pressure NMR investigations of subcritical and supercr
itical-fluid solutions of metal complexes in ethylene and CO2 are pres
ented. To our knowledge, this is the first report of high-pressure NMR
studies of metal chelates in supercritical fluids. Examples presented
include F-19 NMR studies of two beta-diketone metal chelates dissolve
d in subcritical CO2-methanol mixtures and a H-1 NMR study of the (1,5
-cyclooctadiene) dimethylplatinum (II) (Pt-COD) complex in supercritic
al ethylene. High-pressure NMR chemical shifts as a function of densit
y for supercritical ethylene are also presented. The results show the
utility of the NMR technique to study a variety of metal complexes in
subcritical and supercritical fluids.
