Ka. Palinska et We. Krumbein, ELECTROPHORETIC SEPARATION OF 2 UNICYANOBACTERIAL STRAINS LEADING TO PURIFICATION, Journal of microbiological methods, 24(1), 1995, pp. 41-48
The Flat Bed Electrophoresis Apparatus FBE-3000 was used to obtain axe
nic cultures of the two unicyanobacterial strains Synechocystis sp. an
d Synechococcus sp. isolated from marine environments. All the cells e
xamined migrated towards the anode with different mobilities separatin
g cyanobacteria from accompanying chemoorganotrophic bacteria. Coccoid
cyanobacteria remained viable in all cases while tests with filamento
us species were less successful in terms of viability. However chemoor
ganotrophic bacteria were efficiently eliminated even from these filam
entous ones.
