Abstract
We are manufacturing microgap chambers (MGC) on silicon with two-dimen sional read-out. They have an anode pitch of 100 mu m and a cathode pi tch of 400 mu m. We obtained a maximum gas gain of 2500 and the avalan che charge collection takes place within 15 ns, The stability of the g as gain is very good, We have tested the position resolution for the d etection of X-rays, It appears that the gas composition and the streng th of the drift field are important parameters, A high concentration o f dimethylether and a rather small drift field provide the smallest si ze of the total avalanche.
