J. Ott et al., A POSITION-SENSITIVE CATHODE STRIP DETECTOR WITH SINGLE STRIP READOUT, Nuclear instruments & methods in physics research. Section A, Accelerators, spectrometers, detectors and associated equipment, 367(1-3), 1995, pp. 280-284
The detector presented is a special kind of MWPC combined with a scint
illator and is used for nuclear spectroscopy at the Munich Q3D magneti
c spectrograph. It allows both identification and position determinati
on of the incident particles, The position is derived from the charge
distribution influenced on a few neighboring cathode strips which are
read out individually, During data acquisition the position is calcula
ted with the center of gravity method, This reduces the dead time per
event to about 60 mu s but causes a systematic error. This is eliminat
ed later in a replay, which calculates the position by fitting the cha
rge distribution, With this method the position precision is better th
an 0.1 mm.
