Sr0.3Ba0.7Nb2O6 (SBN30) compacts with 1 mol% V2O5 addition were fabric
ated at relatively lower temperatures by liquid phase sintering. A con
siderable elongation and coarsening of grains were observed after prol
onged sintering at 1200 degrees C. The ferroelectric properties were i
mproved by the addition of V2O5: sharpening of the dielectric peak and
shift in Curie temperature from 175 to 225 degrees C. The modified fe
rroelectric properties might be attributed to decrease in the internal
stress and compositional fluctuation with coarsening of grains. The p
yroelectric coefficient of V2O5-added compacts (1200 degrees C, 14h) a
t room temperature was 8.0 x 10(-5) C/m(2) . K.
