Abstract
PVC compounds containing CaCO3 filler and plasticizers were prepared w ith or without a trifunctional acrylic crosslinking agent and irradiat ed by Co-60 gamma-rays under air or nitrogen atmosphere. The samples w ithout crosslinking agent did not respond to irradiation. The mechanic al properties of the other samples such as tensile strength, yield str ength and % elongation showed a great sensitivity to irradiation. Lowe r values of Young's modulus were observed for samples irradiated in ai r compared with samples irradiated in nitrogen indicating the effect o f atmosphere in the range of irradiation studied.
