Abstract
Heavy-ion irradiated foils of Kapton (poly(pyromellitimide), Du Pont) are investigated by permeation of rare gases. The determined permeabil ity coefficients are interpreted as the combined coefficients of prist ine material and of ion tracks. With this assumption, one can deduce a n effective, gas-specific cross section of the single ion track and it s permeability coefficient.
