The effects of swift (E = 11 MeV/u) carbon ion irradiation on the Curi
e transition in poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) or P(VF2-F
(3)E) with a molar VF2 content of 70% and 80% have been investigated.
Wide angle X-ray diffraction and dielectric measurements show that the
irradiation lowers the Curie temperatures either on heating or on coo
ling especially in the 70/30 mol% samples. Ion irradiation of the beta
phase of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVF2 beta) does not lead to an ob
servable Curie transition below the melting point.
