Abstract
The power generated by the proposed Indian MHD retrofit channel has be en evaluated under different operating conditions. Coal is used as a w orking fuel, and the various properties of the combustion gases have b een calculated using a computer program based on the principle of Gibb 's free energy. The effects of operating conditions, e.g. loading para meters, input pressure and temperature, magnetic field, etc. on the ou tput characteristic have been studied in detail, taking into account t he various losses inside the MHD channel. Based on these studies, some optimum working conditions for the MHD retrofit channel have been sug gested.
