Abstract
The fatigue failure mechanisms operative on different segments of the total fatigue curve are discussed. The need for experimental determina tion of this curve is emphasized; once known, this curve will make pos sible a deeper insight into the transitional zones associated with a c hange in the cumulative fatigue damage mechanism.
