A large class of electromagnetic beams (including Gaussian beams and l
aser sheets) complies with symmetry relations that are then mathematic
ally expressed in the framework of the generalized Lorenz-Mie theory (
GLMT). In particular, by using such symmetry relations in evaluating t
he beam-shape coefficients, one can efficiently speed up GLMT computat
ions.
