Abstract
The thermal expansion behaviour of carbon-fibre-reinforced PEEK orthot ropic composite rings is examined in three conditions: free standing, constrained by an internal isotropic mandrel, and constrained by an ex ternal isotropic housing. It is shown that the experimentally observed behaviour can be predicted by using both analytical and finite elemen t approaches, and data appropriate for use in the design of such syste ms are presented.
