The problem of pullout of a long high-modulus rectilinear bar (fiber)
embedded in an elastic half-space (matrix) is considered before and wh
ile local debonding occurs. An approximate analytical solution to the
problem is presented. The problem is then analyzed numerically by mean
s of the finite element method. The results obtained by both approache
s, analytical and numerical, are compared. The discrepancy usually app
ears very small.
