T. Sato et al., THE EFFECT OF BIO-ANTIMUTAGENS ON CHLORAMBUCIL AND METHOTREXATE USINGTHE WING SPOT-TEST IN DROSOPHILA-MELANOGASTER, Eisei Kagaku, 41(6), 1995, pp. 452-457
When certain mutagenic anti-cancer medicines are used for cancer thera
py, secondary production of cancer by the medicines themselves is fear
ed. Certain bio-antimutagenic substances may decrease secondary cancer
induction without interfering with the effectiveness of the anti-canc
er therapies. The bio-antimutagenic effects of cobaltous chloride, gal
lic acid, taurine and isethionate on the anti-cancer medicines chloram
bucil and methotrexate were investigated using the Drosophila melanoga
ster wing spot test. Cobaltous chloride reduced the mutagenicity of me
thotrexate, but not chlorambucil. Gallic acid reduced the mutagenicity
of both medicines. Taurine and isethionate also reduced the mutagenic
ity of methotrexate.
