Gr. Ivanitsky et al., BASEPLATE AS A LOGICAL CONTROLLER BETWEEN THE RECEPTION AND THE TRANSFORMATION OF BACTERIOPHAGE-T4, Biofizika, 40(6), 1995, pp. 1265-1280
It has been shown that the complex functioning of the baseplate of the
bacteriophage T4 is based on the high level hierarchy in the structur
e organization and on the interaction of protein components forming th
e hub and the <<channels>> of short and long fibers. The presence of s
tructure proteins with stabilizing and destabilizing functions has bee
n revealed. It has been shown that the process of binding of long tail
fibers with cell receptors is a cooperative process. In general the b
aseplate can be considered as a logic module providing the transition
from the adsorbtion to the nonreversible reorganization in the bacteri
ophage functioning.
