It was demonstrated that brightly and cryptically coloured pied flycat
cher males have alternative strategies of the advertising behavior. Br
ightly coloured males prefer singing in an open locality, close to a n
est box. The singing activity of cryptically coloured males has an eve
n distribution in an area. These traits of the advertising behavior ar
e connected with differences in a chosen areas' structure. Analysis of
the vegetation structure at 147 males' areas showed, that 9 parameter
s from 33 were significantly correlated with the colouring types. All
of them were connected with open space volume in an area or near it. T
he most important dividing factors for brightly and cryptically colour
ed birds appeared to be the square of lawn in front of a nest box and
the thickness of vegetation around it. Brightly coloured males, unlike
cryptically coloured ones, prefer open nest boxes and a wide open spa
ce before it. The differences in micromosaics of differently coloured
males' areas respond to the males' requirements to an area as a medium
for the advertising behaviour and not to an area's trophic characteri
stics.
