A computer algorithm was developed to identify individual sugarcane sh
oots within shoot chimps micropropagated between parallel plates. The
system of growing shoots between parallel plates was developed to ease
manual or automatic separation of micropropagated sugarcane shoots. U
sing machine vision, 79% of the shoots present were properly identifie
d, and their coordinates found by the algorithm. Physical separation o
f the shoots from 10 clumps using coordinates found by the algorithm s
howed all of the shoots identified would be singulated using the algor
ithm and separation scheme considered.
