Gregarina acridiorum Leger is redescribed based on material from Calli
ptamus italicus and Dociostaurus maroccanus collected in Spain and in
Locusta migratoria in Uzbekistan. This gregarine has a wide range of h
osts and is broadly distributed in Palearctic region. Gregarina garnha
mi Canning is considered to be a junior synonym of G. acridiorum. Inte
nsity of parasitization in some host insects was very high which indic
ates a detrimental effect on gut functions. Gregarine infections have
been also recorded in the natural populations of the acridids Ailopus
sp., Anacridium aegyptium, and Oedaleus decorus and of the tettigoniid
Decticus albifrons collected on Iberian Peninsula and Canary Islands.
