Jd. Trolinger, FUNDAMENTALS OF INTERFEROMETRY AND HOLOGRAPHY FOR CIVIL AND STRUCTURAL-ENGINEERING MEASUREMENTS, Optics and lasers in engineering, 24(2-3), 1996, pp. 89-109
A basic foundation for holography, interferometry and speckle measurem
ent is provided to assist those readers who do not have an optics back
ground. The inclusion of this introductory material is also intended t
o reduce the amount of repetitive material that would have been requir
ed by the subsequent authors. The principles of many optical diagnosti
cs measurements can be understood simply and with very little mathemat
ics, by using graphics and moire analogies-these are used extensively
here. The physical and mathematical analogy between interferometry and
moire is exploited to provide a simple, easily demonstrable explanati
on of virtually all of the phenomena in interferometry and holography.
